 16.12.2011 - Seoul Semiconductor Launches ZC, a Chip-On-Board Type DC LED
Reduces thermal resistance to boost life expectancy and enhances design convenience and price competitiveness for manufacturers

December 7, 2011, Seoul – Seoul Semiconductor (www.seoulsemicon.com), a Korean LED packaging company launched its Chip-On-Board (COB) Type of Direct Current (DC) LED, named ZC (Z-Power COB). ZC series, developed based on Seoul Semiconductor’s Z-Power LEDs which are mainly used as a light source of high-brightness and high-power, decreases thermal resistance, resulting in an exponential improvement in LED lighting product life expectancy. Moreover, it allows manufacturers to conveniently install and design price competitive products.

The ZC Series is designed as a COB type and removes the need for the LED to be surface-mounted on to a metal plate, allowing manufacturers to bypass the chip connection process before use. Companies can trim manufacturing and management costs and greatly improve end product price competitiveness.

Furthermore the use of highly-reflective aluminum substrates in ZC also greatly improves the brightness and significantly prolongs LED bulb life spans. It is possible to use a single ZC from the ZC series to develop a LED light bulb which then allows light to be distributed more evenly than lights that connect several LED packages to a single module.

ZC will be offered in 6W, 10W and 16W, each of which will be appropriate replacements for 40W, 60W incandescent light bulbs and 100W down lights, respectively.

“The ZC will enable manufacturers to easily produce various LED light designs and providing longer-lasting LED lights,” explained Sunghoon Bae, Vice President of Seoul Semiconductor. “As with the recent release of our AC LED, Acrich 2, the launch of our DC LED, ZC, is aligned with Seoul Semiconductor’s commitment to providing a diverse and innovative product portfolio for consumers alongside continued investment in research and development”

The recently launched ZC Series will begin mass production in December and will subsequently be available to customers.

 09.05.2011 - Seoul Semiconductor releases a price-competitive and high-efficiency Z4 (SZW04A0A, SZWW4A0A0)
- Price-competitive Z4 series with high efficiency (100lm/W) and high color rendering index (CRI greater than 85)
- 1 Watt LED for incandescent and MR16 bulb -type LED lighting

April 20, 2011 – Today, Seoul Semiconductor, one of the world’s leading LED manufactures, announced the brand-new, high-intensity Z-Power LED series titled ‘Z4.’ Seoul Semiconductor has continuously expanded its LED product line in accordance with its 2011 business plan which targets to release a new product that is suitable for different markets every month.

The new model is a 1W LED light which is the most demanding in the current LED market. It is good for general lighting such as incandescent lamp and MR16 bulb-type lighting. In particular, it is very competitive in terms of price with outstanding luminous efficiency (100lm/W) and luminous flux of 100ml. And it also provides the best brightness, efficiency and color rendering properties of 1W LED with high CRI which is greater than 85.

Z4 LED helps to prevent degradation in high temperature which is the most controversial aspect of the LED package, with exceptional reliability and high protection against heat in comparison with competitive products. Above all, a price-competitive Z4 is highly competitive product in ‘cost/lm’ which is most important for LED for lighting. Until now, LED performance was judged by ‘lm/W’, but now ‘cost/lm’ is more important for performance after releasing high intensity products over 100lm. In addition, it has adopted a silicon lens for optical safety. This product is available in two colors: warm white and cool white.

In-sup Ra, Vice president of Seoul Semiconductor, said, “We have developed the high-efficiency, low-price Z4 series with the goal of increasing our market share in the world’s most demanding 1W LED market.” He added, “We believe that we will be able to further expand the incandescent lamp and MR16 bulb-type LED lighting market and enhance price competitiveness with this new product.”

 18.03.2011 - Seoul Semiconductor introduces New Acriche A7 (SAW07D0A) A8 (SAWW8F1A,SAWW8D1A) High-Power AC LED Product for Lighting
- A7 Direct AC-driven high-power (3.2W) LED brings high efficiency, excellent cost and performance in a highly reliable, ultra-small, ceramic-circuit package
- A8 Possible to replace traditional 60W light bulb with only one A8 package.

February 15, 2011 – Leading global LED provider Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) today announced its new AC-powered LED lighting product named ‘Acriche A7’. Seoul Semiconductor had recently released two new high-brightness white LED products according to their 2011 plan that aims to release new products every month.

The brand-new ‘Acriche A7’ is smaller in size but significantly improved in terms of reliability and ESD-withstand. Acriche, which can operate under both AC and DC power supplies, is one of the flagship products of Seoul Semiconductor. It can be operated on common household AC voltages such as 110V/220V without a converter.

‘A7’ is a 3.2W LED, which has been a popular choice for general illumination applications. It provides 305lm and is offered in an ultra-small, ceramic-circuit package (8x8x3.7mm). Above all, it is very low in ‘cost/lm’ among other lighting-class LED products making it well-suited for commercial lighting products such as down lights, MR16, PAR30 and PAR38 replacement lamps, ‘A7’ can last over 40,000 hours and improves the lifespan of the end product because a converter is unnecessary.

Traditionally, DC LED lamps have lasted about 10,000 hours because of the short lifespan of some of the components in the converter. However, with the Acriche that does not require any converters, the lamp manufacturer can achieve cost-savings while improving system efficiency and lifetime.

March 9, 2011 – Leading global LED provider Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) today announced a new AC and DC-powered LED for downlight, named ‘A8.’ Based on its plan to release new product(s) every month in 2011, the global company introduced Acriche A8 followed after two high-brightness DC LED product and Acriche A7.

The brand new LED Acriche ‘A8’ replaces 60W incandescent bulbs with a single package is very competitive in terms cost by removing SMD process of dozens of DC LED package on expensive metal substrate for thermal emission and also to prevent using AC, DC converter. Acriche, the semiconductor light source which can operate under both AC and DC power supply, is one of the flagship brands of Seoul Semiconductor. It operates immediately without a converter at 110V/220V as well as under low/high voltage.

‘A8’ is a product specially designed for downlight, which is the most demanding among lighting LEDs these days. In particular, it is offered in an ultra-thin package (25x22x2mm), COB style with 700lm of brightness. So it is far better than rival products in terms of light efficiency enough to replace 60W light bulb with only one A8 package.

‘A8,’ customized for incandescent bulb / downlight and indoor lighting, can last up to the life of the LED chip because it does not require a converter. So far, DC LED lamps have lasted about 10,000 hours because of the short lifespan of the converter.

Seoul Semiconductor started its mass production of the latest Acriche, A8 series and samples are now available upon request.

 06.02.2011 - SEOUL SEMICONDUCTOR accelerates the penetration into lighting market with new - Z6 ( SZF06F0A ), Z7 (SZW07A0A)
- High-brightness white Z7 LED series which offer superior thermal emission performance;

- Ultra-thin Z6 RGB LED series makes full color possible with single package;

January 19, 2011 – Today, SEOUL Semiconductor, the world’s leading LED manufacturer, released new high-brightness Z-Power LED Z series titled ‘Z7’ and ‘Z6’ and unveiled its plan to release one or two new product(s) every month to meet diverse customer needs and demands as the LED lighting market looks prosperous this year.

The Z-Power LED Z7 series (4W) is a high-brightness white LED made of special ceramic PCB. It offers 5,500K color temperature and 440lm brightness. In particular, the Z series offers an ultra-small package (9 X 7 X 3.2mm) for easy application to diverse indoor and outdoor lighting products in substitution of P7 LED series.

Compared to the P7 series, Z7 series are significantly small (about one seventh) in terms of the foot print. In fact, the brand-new product is thinner but brighter and more efficient than rival products. After all, the Z7 series is a perfect solution to indoor and outdoor lightings which requires long life and stability just like street lamps and tunnel lighting as well as downlight and commercial lights such as PAR30.

The Z-Power LED Z6 series also includes full-color LED products which can create red/green/blue and even white lights. In particular, the 4 LED chips in the Z6 package are individually operable in red, green, blue and white (1W each). If they are operated at the same time, the white color (4W) can be created in diverse color temperatures (pure, warm and neutral). In addition, Z6 series offers diversity of designs by comprising the four LED chips with independent circuits inside the package.

The Z6 series, which is available in an ultra-small package (9 X 7 X 1mm) is specially designed to create fancy lighting such as landscape lighting, stage lighting and digital signage based on full-color performance. Especially, the Z6 series has superior color mixing properties compared to rival products. Because it is scheduled to be released at about 30% less expensive, it could make a great contribution to the wide distribution of LED lighting.

Manuel Zarauza, the vice president of European sales from Seoul Semiconductor, said, “We expect to be able to take care of current technical and economic problems in the LED lighting market with the new Z-Power LED Z6/Z7 series.”

 23.04.2010 - Acriche achieves a high luminous efficiency of 150 lm/W
Full-scale mass production of 100 lm/W began in the first quarter of the year and mass production of 150 lm/W is close due to a rapid progress in research and development

Seoul Semiconductor Inc. (CEO Chung Hoon Lee, www.acriche.com), a world leading LED manufacturer has announced that Acriche, which is made by its own patented technology and driven by an alternating current power source for household or industrial use, achieved a luminous efficiency of 100 lm/w in February, the company began to put the product into mass production in April and it also recently succeeded in achieving 150 lm/W.

The mass production of 150 lm/W is scheduled to begin by the end of the year accelerating the replacement of halogen lamps, incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lighting with LED technology. The European Union’s legeslation banning the sale of incandescent light bulbs of more than 100 watts from September 2009 and future steps to ban all use of inefficient conventional electric lighting are being seen as a turning point for LED adoption.

Acriche is the world’s only semiconductor light source that can be driven by a alternating current power source without the need of an AC-DC converter. This ability to operate without the use of a converter results in a significant reduction in energy losses and additional cost savings compared to standard DC LED technology, Acriche also offers a reduction in the enviromental impact of lighting, reducing carbon dioxide emissions without a compromise in brightness or quality of light. Due to these advantages, two of the world’s largest lighting companies already have products, for lighting applications, in mass production using the Acriche, In addition, more than 100 companies are beginning to utilse the Acriche in various applications. This latest development in technology has enhanced the reputation of Seoul Semiconductor as a world leader in environmentally friendly LED manufacture, by rapidly accelerating the development alternative soultions to conventional lighting.

 26.8.2009 - Acriche Family Exceeds DC LED efficiency
Announcing a new Acriche device, the A4–AC LED with better luminous efficiency than DC LED
Luminous efficiency of 75lm/W, Color Rendering Index (CRI) greater than 85

Seoul Semiconductor Inc. (CEO Chung Hoon Lee, www.acriche.com), a world-leading LED manufacturer held a press conference in Korea, the US and China on August 26th to celebrate a new product, the Acriche A4 with world’s best luminous efficiency of 75lm/W, and introduced the A4 to the mass market.

Two-third’s of the world’s lighting consists of warm white lights (2700K to 3000K); the newly announced product is to be mass produced and readily available this quarter, capable of replacing warm white incandescent and CFL light sources in many applications.

Currently, white LED’s are divided into two major markets: products with a High Color Rendering Index (CRI) greater than 85, which is close to natural light, and products with a Normal CRI of 70 to 80. High CRI products will often be significantly less bright than their lower CRI counterparts, but due to their similarity to natural light High CRI sources are excellent for high quality light applications. LED’s with normal CRI focus more on brightness than on color and have the disadvantage of being different from natural light. Consequently, a compromise was required between brightness and CRI.

The new and highly innovative Acriche A4 product has technology that is able to satisfy both CRI and brightness. The past requirement of lowering luminous efficiency by several tens of percent is overcome by the A4. The A4 devices have a color temperature of 3000K and include multiple new technologies provide excellent efficiency of 75 lumens per watt (lm/W) with a High CRI of 85.

Alternating Current (AC) LED’s with better luminous efficiency than LED’s with Direct Current (DC) for the first time is very significant. Seoul Semiconductor stated that “with the mass production of the Acriche A4 series, we will be able to provide both high quality and normal use markets with light sources that have exceptional performance and lower prices. With the A4 series, we want to spread the name “Acriche” far and wide as the world’s best LED brand”.

Significant advantages of the Acriche A4 series include:
▲It is possible to use Acriche products on AC power freely between 100V and 230V without additional conversion. Only a simple, inexpensive diode bridge is required.
▲Different than other Acriche products (such as the popular A2 and A3 series), the A4 uses 50Vrms per package and 110V-220V can be achieved by connecting multiple devices in whatever manner is needed.
▲Whether used in light bulbs or light structures with arrays of LED’s, the best suitable design is guaranteed due to the degree of freedom of placement and configuration of the A4

* CRI (Color Rendering Index):
Color Rendering Index (Ra) indicates how much a light resembles a natural light source with the influence of the light on various colors of objects. It is measured in units from 0 to 100, where 100 indicates the most similar to natural light.
